Here is my suggestion on how to use these goals.
Paste the sheet into the front inside cover of your students' writing books.
(There's two sheets but the second one is generally for later in the year).
Look at a student's writing and decide what their most pressing goal is.
Highlight AROUND that box on the sheet. Every time you see your student achieving the goal, place a tick in the box.
When you feel like they have consistently achieved their goal (perhaps you've ticked it three, four or five times), you highlight the WHOLE box and write the date.
Then you choose their next goal and start the process again!
